Bringing fan-favorite characters to life, the monolithic Marvel finally enters the PvP hero shooter market with Marvel Rivals. After first seeing what the game had to offer in its open beta, Marvel Rivals offers a fresh yet somehow familiar take on an oversaturated genre. There may be a lot of competition, but Marvel Rivals is already off to a great start, with a ton of content to come and even more iconic heroes set to appear upon release.

It pits players against each other in 6v6 objective-based heroic deathmatches, much like classic Overwatch. Team composition is a very important feature in Marvel Rivals, especially with its unique and powerful team-up system. To activate a team-up, combine one or more compatible characters and the designated activator hero before unlocking powerful additional abilities using one of the three dedicated buttons, depending on the character. Must be paired. Marvel Rivals has a nearly limitless number of characters to add, so you can expect even more unique team-ups and options to combine with existing team-ups.

A dimensional shortcut that uses sword-wielding magic as an activator is a lifesaver for teammates caught in a no-win battle. Pairing up with Black Panther and Psylocke, Magic allows his friends to travel backwards through time at will. Calling a portal and retreating to a safe location grants bonus health based on damage taken.

How Dimensional Shortcuts Can Save Your Team in Marvel Rivals

While this ability sounds great on paper, it requires a melee-only DPS comp, making it a matchup you're unlikely to experience. Nevertheless, the option to heal and retreat from combat helps make up for the utility at range that melee-only duelists lack. This combination is especially useful for Black Panther's abilities. Because his ultimate AoE attack requires you to put yourself in dangerous situations to maximize your damage output.

Unleash Devastating AoE Damage with Venom’s Symbiote Bond in Marvel Rivals

Surprisingly, the first web-slinging team-up uses Venom rather than Spidey as the activator, lending players some of his deadly symbiote. When activated with Peni Parker and Spider-Man, the heroes are covered in a barrage of symbiote spikes that deal area damage and explode outward. These spikes deal damage over time and give a small shield bonus while knocking back enemies caught in their way.

It's a bit strange to use such a slow-paced ability on an incredibly mobile character like Spider-Man, but its damage ability is more than enough to make up for it. In addition to direct damage, the ability to push the enemy back is perfect for achieving important objectives, keeping the enemy team away from attacking for a few precious seconds that can change the course of the match.

Voltaic Union: Boosting Damage with Lightning-Powered Heroes in Marvel Rivals

With his incredible talent, Thor is the energizer of this powerful team-up. When combined with Storm or Captain America, Thor can give them both a temporary damage boost by channeling electricity. When powered up, Storm can unleash a barrage of enhanced lightning bolts, and Captain America boasts increased movement speed and electrical status damage to nearby enemies.

These powerful enhancements can be extremely difficult for unsuspecting teams. An essential lifeline for melee-only duelists

The ability to give teammates these powerful enhancements can be very difficult for unsuspecting teams to deal with. If you can use this team-up to combine Thor's defensive abilities with the melee and ranged abilities of his allies, you'll have a balanced team to take on any threat.

Eliminate Threats and Control Mobile Enemies with Allied Agents in Marvel Rivals

Using Hawkeye as an activator, he grants his fellow heroes the ability of surveillance without having traditional superpowers. Pairing only with Black Widow for now, Hawkeye gives her the ability to see afterimages of enemies for a limited time. Shooting these stationary afterimages allows you to easily damage and eliminate enemies even when hidden behind cover.

Easily damage and eliminate enemies even when behind cover.

This ability has amazing potential, but requires careful planning to use effectively. Afterimage makes even the most mobile characters like Spider-Man dramatically easier to defeat. The only drawback is that that window is small and you need to take advantage of it as much as possible without putting yourself at risk.

Chilling Charisma: How Passive Empowerment Can Surprise Enemies in Marvel Rivals

It may not seem like the flashiest ability, but Luna Snow's Team-Up Activation can easily take down overly aggressive enemies. When paired with duelist Namor and lovable landshark Jeff, Luna gives their attacks enhanced ice abilities. When power-ups are enabled, Jeff's ranged ability applies a slowing area effect to enemies, and Namor's deployable turret companion deals additional ice damage.

Tip

This is a team-up ability that players can activate independently of their team, making it great if you're on a team with poor communication.

This ability shines by being able to surprise your enemies, and the damage boost is more than enough to defeat duelists who try to assassinate you. The slowing effect of the ice ability means that the mobile duelist will have a harder time reaching the target, allowing them to wipe out targets from a safe distance.

Ragnarök Rebirth: Combining Damage and Healing for Versatile Power in Marvel Rivals

Hela is already one of the more powerful duelists available in Marvel Rivals, but the Ragnarok Rebirth team-up takes Hela's usefulness to the next level. When combined with her brothers Loki and Thor, Hela can passively revive one of the Norse gods fallen in battle. This not only fully revives one of your teammates on the spot, but can even grant bonus health to your living teammates.

The Ragnarök Rebirth team-up takes Hela's utility to the next level.

The only caveat to this incredibly powerful ability is that it requires you to land the final blow on your enemy, which annoys your teammates as you pick up the kill. Thankfully, this isn't as bad as it sounds, considering Hela's high-damage knife and attack abilities are perfect for securing these kills.

Metallic Chaos: Empowering Tanks with Ranged Abilities in Marvel Rivals

Scarlet Witch was one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Rivals beta, and the enabled team-up made her an incredibly powerful pick. When combined with Magneto, who specializes in melee attacks, Scarlet Witch can fire projectiles that deal high damage with each melee attack.

An incredibly offensive team-up for taking down enemies hiding in the backlines.

The best thing about this ability is that you can activate it at will when playing as Magneto, making it easy to defeat retreating enemies at critical moments. Combined with the Scarlet Witch herself, this could be an incredibly offensive team-up to take down enemies hiding in the rearguard.

Upgrading Powerful Abilities: How Great Minds Think Alike in Marvel Rivals

Hulk's mere presence is enough to activate Gamma Charge's team-up ability and empower similarly intelligent allies. Iron Man and Doctor Strange are two heroes who can utilize Bruce Banner's alter ego, greatly enhancing their abilities thanks to the Hulk's radioactive properties. It activates whenever Banner transforms into the Hulk, so it can be used to quickly overwhelm attacking enemies.

Iron Man's Armor Overdrive enhancement becomes even more powerful with this passive, allowing him to unleash area-of-effect attacks from standard attacks while having access to a more powerful chest laser. Meanwhile, Strange's Maelstrom ability will now be able to deal additional radiation damage to enemies, making both duelists even more deadly than before. These abilities don't have much tactical utility, but their sheer power is enough to make them a great combination to keep in mind.

Ammo Overload: Unleashing an Unstoppable Barrage in Marvel Rivals

Rocket Raccoon's Ammo Overload may be one of the simplest team-ups in Marvel Rivals, but it's by far one of the strongest. To activate the rocket, you need to throw away the rocket's auxiliary equipment. This increases the Punisher and Winter Soldier's rate of fire and provides them with infinite ammo. Either of these benefits are great on their own, but combined they can easily melt down the heaviest tanks in the game.

This upgraded combat ability is great to use.

This team-up is perfect for not only taking down powerful enemies, but also for taking out larger groups of enemies quickly, allowing you to constantly unleash a barrage of bullets on anyone who comes into view. Winter Soldier and Punisher weapons already have a high rate of fire, so this upgraded combat ability is great to use. The massive damage from this team-up also forces enemies to react to or run away from your attacks, taking pressure off your team and other targets in the area.

Rocket Racoon is also compatible with classic team-up Groot, making him one of the more versatile characters in the game thanks to the added compatibility layer.

Turning the Tide with Guardian Revival: Extra Healing to Keep You in the Fight

Adam Warlock's Cocoon ability is already great on its own, but Guardian Revival's ability to share it with his allies makes it one of the most powerful team-ups in the game. When combined with Mantis or Star-Lord, both have free access to Adam's self-resurrection abilities. Although it has a long cooldown of 2 minutes compared to other abilities, this ability can completely change the course of a battle, especially when paired with two other players and used at the same time.

When it comes to achieving goals, resurrecting fallen allies is a great ability, especially with proper team communication. In addition to the instant revive ability, the Warlock provides a 15% recovery boost to his two allies, keeping them alive even longer before needing to be revived in the first place.

Team-ups are incredibly powerful on their own, but they aim to take Marvel Rivals' strongest heroes to the next level, enhancing their abilities while providing even more utility.
